Whomping Wednesdays: Friendly Fires @ Club Nokia
So we ventured out to Club Nokia in Downtown L.A. to see Friendly Fires last Saturday, and as expected, they brought the house down. We saw Friendly Fires at the start of their tour last Spring and their stage presence hasn’t diminished in the slightest. Unfortunately for our readers we didn’t get photo passes to shoot the show like we usually do because we decided to watch it from the cheap seats and party like the rest of their diehard fans with all of our friends.
If you haven’t seen Friendly Fires or even heard of them for that matter, you’re in for a delicious audio treat that’s going to give you an unexpected sugar rush. They ‘re best know for the singles ‘Skeleton Boy’ & ‘Paris’ from their debut self-titled album, but their most recent album, Pala, is full of the same dancey funk that explodes in every live show.
Friendly Fires’ stage presence is the main reason they’re in my top 5 favorite live shows of 2011. The band plays tightly together as the lead singer boogies and belts his way through their set. And unlike the heavily auto-tuned artists that fill today’s airwaves, Ed Macfarlane hits every note with ease. Overall, their performance starts with a bang and continues to build with energy until the very last symbol crash.
